Insuring the Memorial's Role in the Life of the Community

At the heart of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Holocaust Memorial's mission is a committment to carrying the memory of the Shoah to future generations. While many children will certainly be among the millions of visitors who encounter the Memorial as they walk the Boardwalk, the Committee is dedicated to establishing an active dialogue directly with the children of New Jersey.

This commitment is reflected in a model program the Memorial will establish in collaboration with the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education. In 2010 the Commission's Executive Director will organize a state-wide school competition, giving the schoolchildren of New Jersey the opportunity to participate in the event by developing memorials in art and other classes.  At that time, a new teacher's guide entitled "Memorializing the Holocaust and Genocide" will be introduced. The guide will be distributed to middle and high school teachers throughout New Jersey. Selected school entries will be on display in Atlantic City next summer, and ACBHM,Inc. will award plaques to the winning school entries.

Our Education Committee want all the children of New Jersey to find the Holocaust Memorial's message meaningful to them and in their lives. We hope to bring together people who share a committment to young people and to identifying and eradicating bigotry and prejudice of all kinds.
