Atlantic City Boardwalk Holocaust Memorial

Site Plan

Site Description: The competition site is located on the ocean side of the Atlantic City boardwalk at an existing pavilion, at the terminus of Kentucky Avenue. It is 60 feet in length and 40 feet in depth. Approximately ten million visitors walk past this site each year. Visitors will approach the site from the boardwalk. Directly across from the pavilion are typical boardwalk shops and eateries. There are no structures to either side of the pavilion. To the southeast (ocean side), there are sand dunes, beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The pavilion is partially visible from the beach. The scale of the site is intimate and pedestrian.

APPROVALS: The site will require both local and state approvals. Critical to this process are the approvals from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Office of Coastal Area Review. Local site plan approval will be required from the Atlantic City Planning Board, and project coordination with the local planning staff will be necessary. Go to Design Considerations for a general list of constraints. At the present time, we do not want to be overly constrictive.  You are invited to make any assumptions concerning regulatory restrictions, but should carefully note the assumptions that are made.
